It Took 50 Years

“Life is a journey that’s measured not in miles or years but in experiences”  Jimmy Buffet

“Here’s a time when you have to separate yourself from what other people expect of you, and do what you love. Because if you find yourself 50 years old and you aren’t doing what you love, then what’s the point?” Jim Carey

Fifty years of life on this planet – crazy, right?  Really it has been 51 years today as we are born at zero and have already experienced a full year by our first birthday. It took those 50 years to make me who I am today.

I’ve had a pretty amazing 50 years.  I have met many wonderful people on my ½ century journey.  People all of whom I wish I could spend more time with.   I have a family who has learned to accept me as I am – to understand that I often don’t take the expected path.  I have the most caring and loving husband and soul mate. I have the privilege of sharing experiences with the best pups and kitties and miss them terribly when we are apart.

In my fifty years (51 really) I have learned a few things.  I always strive to be a good person. I respect and love mother-nature and our earth.  I want our earth to be a beautiful place for many generations to come. I didn’t make it to 50 all by myself.  I had some help along the way.  I don’t see fifty as a stumbling block or as old age settling in – I see every day as a blessing – I am truly lucky to be able to share my life experiences with my family and friends (including the four legged kind). I cherish the time I spend with my students.

I am more confident in my choices, more aware of my surroundings.  I may be a tad bit more forgetful but I am a ton wiser.  I know what I love and love what I know.  I love to live life to the fullest and will never stop adventuring.

My 50th year is certainly one I will never forget.  One year ago today, my husband and I embarked on an experience of a lifetime: A bicycle adventure around the world. Although sometimes we measure the miles or elevation gain it is the experiences and people that I will cherish forever.

Thanks everyone for helping me celebrate my 50 years of life long experiences.
